James Cook is the North East and Yorkshire's sail training boat.

If you want to learn to sail or are looking to do something different and challenging, sign up for a voyage on the James Cook. We don't run sailing holidays: you sail as crew with us and it's full-on sailing and learning from the moment you step aboard.

You'll learn to steer, hoist and trim the sails, handle the mooring lines and fenders, keep lookout and the basics of navigation. You'll also cook for your crewmates (they'll cook for you, too) and help keep the boat clean. Be ready for hard work, but great rewards.

How far you sail and how much you develop as a sailor depends on you: you can sign up for a weekend, a week or for some of our longer voyages to Scandinavia, Holland and the Baltic Sea.

Check out our list of voyages 2008, and register with us to receive regular updates about what's happening on the James Cook. Sail with us, and you're in famous company: Captain James Cook, one of the greatest sailors and navigators in the history of seafaring learned to sail in the North Sea. So did one of the greatest sailors of modern days: Dame Ellen MacArthur. We hope that more young people will learn to be great sailors on the decks of the James Cook.
