The James Cook sails thousands of miles every year in all weathers: the North Sea is a tough environment which makes the boat and all its gear work hard. We pride ourselves on keeping the James Cook in good condition, and each year the boat must pass an inspection by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to receive a certificate of seaworthiness.
Some items on the boat are approaching the end of their working lives and need replacement, and donations towards replacing them will help the James Cook continue its work of providing adventure under sail and personal development for the young people of Yorkshire, Humberside, Tyneside, Wearside and Northumberland. Any person or company who helps us replace any of the following would benefit from: a press release and photograph issued by ourselves and in cooperation with your media advisors, an invitation to visit the boat with a young crew aboard to see the equipment you provided in action, thanks and a photo story on this website. Items which need replacement include: Four winches in the cockpit - these control tension of ropes which set the headsails and the running backstays which help support the main mast. Running rigging - ropes to control the set of the sails. New staysail and tack track. If could you help with the cost of any of these items, please contact our shore manager by or telephone on 0191 257 1212. |
